Who said kebab doesn’t match with Bali?

As a true food lover, I’m always on the lookout for new places to explore, new cuisines, new flavours, and dishes that carry stories from different cultures. Bali may be famous for its nasi goreng and satay, but every now and then, your taste buds crave something different. I had been searching for a really good kebab on the island for quite some time, and I kept hearing about a spot on the ever-busy Sunset Road called Istanbul Mezeh Kebab House. Naturally, curiosity won. So one evening, I headed there with a group of friends, and what followed was nothing short of a feast.

From the moment the food arrived at our table, we knew we were in for something special. Everything looked incredibly fresh, especially the mezze platter, which was as beautiful as it was inviting. Even before the plates were set down, the aroma of grilled meat, warm spices, and freshly baked bread drifted through the air, instantly heightening our appetite. It’s the kind of smell that makes you realise just how hungry you actually are.

The kebabs exceeded our expectations, juicy, flavorful, and grilled to perfection. Every bite was packed with authentic spices that felt both bold and comforting. The mezze selection deserves special mention; it’s easily one of the best I’ve had so far. We absolutely loved the silky aubergine purée, smoky, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. For the main course, the Adana Lamb Kebab was the star of the evening. It had a gentle kick of spice, enough to excite your palate without overpowering it. If you’re feeling adventurous, the fish with almonds is another interesting dish worth trying, offering a delightful balance of texture and flavour.

Another pleasant surprise? The prices. They’re very reasonable compared to other restaurants offering similar cuisine in Bali. It’s not exactly warung pricing, of course, but for the quality, portion size, and overall experience, it’s absolutely worth it. By the end of our meal, we were so completely satisfied that dessert simply wasn’t an option, there was no room left!

What makes Istanbul Kebab House even more impressive is the attention to detail. Although it may look like a small joint at first glance, you quickly realise how much thought and effort the owner has put into the place. Parking on Sunset Road can be a nightmare, but here, there’s decent parking space, a major bonus. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, so you can choose to enjoy Bali’s evening breeze or relax comfortably inside.

The space isn’t huge, but it’s cozy and thoughtfully designed. The interior gives off the warm charm of a small eatery in Turkey, intimate, welcoming, and full of character. You’ll understand what I mean when you visit yourself. Despite the strong impression that it might be a meat-lover’s paradise, the menu offers a surprisingly wide variety of options, including excellent vegetarian dishes.

Since it was our first visit, we were eager to try as many dishes as possible. As we explored the menu, the owner noticed us and came over to greet us personally. He was incredibly warm and welcoming, making us feel valued and appreciated. He even recommended a few dishes based on our preferences, which added a lovely personal touch to the experience.

So if you ever find yourself bored of nasi goreng and craving something different, I highly recommend giving this place a try. Bali and kebab? Trust me, they’re a perfect match.
