Thirteen dolphins trapped on Batu Tumpeng Beach in
Bali's Klungkung region yesterday have been released back into the ocean,
according to officials, following late-night rescue attempts.
The dolphins were initially spotted yesterday
afternoon, according to Putu Widiada, a Regional Disaster Management Agency
(BPBD) officer in Klungkung. Authorities believe they became stuck due to tidal
surges, adding that some were discovered on the sand while others were
discovered amid the rocks along the coastline.
“By midnight, all the
dolphins were released [to the ocean],” Widiada said today.
A video shot yesterday night captured images of the
evacuation attempt while it was taking place.
Widiada stated that the BPBD would be monitoring the
spot again today to ensure that no other dolphins become trapped in the area.
