The government is testing entry without quarantine for foreign visitors arriving in Bali.

The trial is set to begin on March 14, 2022.

"The government will also undertake a trial without quarantine for overseas visitors who come to Bali, and it is intended to take effect on the 14th of March with several conditions," said Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in a virtual press conference on Sunday, February 27th, 2022.

Pandjaitan stated that the quarantine-free trial in Bali could begin as early as March 14th. According to him, if the trend of COVID-19 cases in Bali decreases in the coming week, the trial will be accelerated.

"If the data improves over the next week, we could move the 14th of March to a different date." "It appears that yesterday in Bali, we saw the numbers continue to improve in the last few weeks," he said.

Pandjaitan continued that in this trial, foreign visitors arriving in Bali will need to have a full vaccine or booster. Following that, they will be subjected to a one-time PCR test, which must be negative.

"Tourists who arrive must show proof of hotel payment for at least four days or, for Indonesian citizens, proof of domicile in Bali." Incoming tourists must be fully immunised or have a booster shot. Tourists will then undergo a PCR test and remain in hotel rooms until the results are negative," Pandjaitan explained.

"Once the tests come back negative, the tourists will be free to go about their business while the procedures are still in effect." On the third day, tourists will undergo another PCR test at their respective hotels. "This is for our mutual protection," he added.

Meanwhile, during the trial period without quarantine, international events held in Bali will apply the provisions of daily antigen testing to all participants without exception.

"There will also be a revision of the requirement to have a guarantor sponsor for tourist e-visa requests because it is deemed burdensome for foreign tourists who will enter," he said.

Bali was chosen as the trial site because the overall second-dose vaccination rate was higher than in other provinces.

Pandjaitan stated that if the quarantine-free trial in Bali was successful, it would be implemented throughout Indonesia in the future. He did, however, remind people that the policy would only go into effect if the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia improved.

"If the trial in Bali goes well, we will extend the no-quarantine policy throughout Indonesia on or before April 1st, 2022." However, as previously stated, this policy will be implemented based on data on the progression of the pandemic in the future," Pandjaitan added.
