Nyepi day is celebrated on 9th March of every year and it is the new year celebration for Balinese People. Nyepi celebrations comes in two parts, first is “Ogoh-Ogoh” event which happens before the Nyepi Day. The history behind this beautiful cultural event is that Balinese people parade with hand crafted creatures in the street as a gesture of calling out the evil spirits & demons. The Silent day Nyepi is to tricking those demons in believing that there is no one in the Island by remaining silent so they can leave. The world silent day is inspired from the Nyepi event which is celebrated on 21st march of every year. 2.Every year over 1 million liter of Fuel is saved on this day, electricity usage is also prohibited except for the hospitals. 3. Carbon Dioxide release is also reduced drastically. 4. Nyepi helps in conserving the cultural history of Balinese people among their children as the Ogoh Ogoh are crafted by children. 5.The island is rid of all sorts of traffic and pollution on Nyepi day including the airport and aerial space of Bali. 6. No hotels check in or check out are allowed. All shops are closed. 7. Even the world's most famous surf spots are empty, no one is allowed to surf but if you plan on witnessing something beautiful we advise you to stay by the beach. 8. The only village in Bali where Nyepi is not celebrated is Tenganan ethnic Village.
