bali to host u-20 worldcup matches in 2021

Bali is all set to host matches for U-20 Worldcup in 2021 being one of the six provinces in Indonesia. It is the first time for the country to to host the biennial championship for the first time.

A Presidential Decree was issued on September 15 in which President Joko Widodo established  the FIFA U-20 World Cup Organizing Committee (INAFOC) to organize the upcoming international event.

The U-20 FIFA Worldcup is scheduled between May 20 2021 till June 12 2021. Six stadium including Bali has been selected across the country to host the games. Bali matches will be held in Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar regency, while other venues include the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium in Jakarta and Sriwijaya Stadium in Palembang, South Sumatra. 

If there are any changes, Fifa is yet to announce them so far there are no changes in the schedule for the Worldcup. Indonesian officials are proceeding with the preparations nonetheless. 

Wayan Koster, the Governor of Bali has expressed high hopes this event will play a vital role in boosting province's economy which has been badly affected by the pandemic.

“Of course this event will help boost the revival of Bali’s economy, and right now every week a number of ministries are hosting meetings in Bali. This is part of an effort towards Bali’s recovery,” Koster said yesterday.

He added that four fields in Denpasar city and Badung regency are also prepared to host trainings for the teams. 

“I’ll be doing the monitoring myself, I’ll be directly supervising these projects. Because this is for the good name of Indonesia in the world’s eye,” Koster said.
