The Tourism Association in the Karangasem area
reported that hundreds of hotel reservations from domestic guests had been
cancelled as a result of Bali's current policy imposing an emergency partial
lockdown.
Wayan Kariasa, the head of the Karangasem Hotel and
Restaurant Association, stated that the central government's recent order for
an emergency partial lockdown had a direct impact on accommodation companies in
Karangasem. “Since July 2nd, 2021, hundreds of hotel reservations in Karangasem
have been cancelled.” On Sunday (4/7), Kariasa stated.
As previously reported by The Bali Sun, the central
government has directed that all regions in Bali and Java implement an
emergency partial lockdown in order to reduce Covid-19 transmissions, which
have been on the rise since the new variant of Corona virus has infiltrated
many areas on both islands. Kariasa anticipated that the number of
cancellations will rise as the government tightens restrictions on both
domestic and foreign tourists.
He further stated that numerous activities scheduled
for Karangasem, including the Work From Bali (WFB) project, were cancelled
during the implementation. Kariasa asked the government to offer financial
assistance to the tourist industry as recompense for adhering to the plan. “I
hope the government can give some assistance, such as assisting laid-off
workers, paying for their insurance, and providing financial assistance for
operational costs during the partial lockdown because we had to close our
companies until the lockdown ended.” Kariasa concluded.
