Officials in Indonesia have announced that the
Covid-19 vaccination would be required for foreign tourists beginning July 6,
2021.
The Maritime and Investment Minister, Luhut Binsar
Pandjaitan, stated that overseas tourists will be asked to present Covid-19
vaccination certificates upon arrival in Indonesia, including Bali, during the
emergency partial lockdown. “Aside from a negative PCR test, overseas tourists
must be completely vaccinated in order to enter our border,” said Jodi Mahardi,
spokesman for Maritime and Investment Minister, on Sunday (4/7).
Despite the new restriction, officials will make an
exception for those expats who want to enter Indonesia without a Covid-19
vaccination certificate. “There are a few exceptions, such as international
government officials with whom we have diplomatic relations.” Mahardi
continued. He also stated that both expatriates and Indonesian nationals
planning to enter the Indonesian border must undergo an 8-day quarantine at
government facilities.
This quarantine strategy, which was recently revised
by the Health Minister, was implemented to avoid the formation of new clusters
of Covid-19 transmissions, particularly with the new virus types Delta and Alpha,
which have a four-day incubation period. Each individual must be tested twice:
first when they arrive at the airport and again on day seven of their
quarantine period before being allowed to enter public areas.
