global destination index ranks bali as one of the top visited cities

According to an annual report issued by Master Card Bali is one of the top cities visited in 2018. It estimates that around 8 million international tourists visited Bali. We understand your confusion since Bali isn't a city but an Island containing multiple cities however that distinction gets Bali out of the list so let it be.

Bali is ranked at 19th place this year as published by Global Destination Cities Index.The report estimates around 8.6 million international visitors in 2018 making it ahead of Hong Kong who hosted around 8.3 million tourists in 2018.

In the Pacific region of Asia, Bali is ranked 9th as the top three destinations were awarded to Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Further stats indicated that the average days spent in Bali by a tourist are 8.6 with an average of USD 125 spent daily by the international tourists.

The data from Master Card further explains that top visitors in Bali were China, Australia and India. Where China takes 22.4%, Australia takes 19.3% and India holds 5.8% share of arrivals.
