The authorities from the Badung Police in Bali have stepped up their ATM surveillance to prevent criminal organizations from skimming bank cards.

Badung's Public Relations Manager, Iptu Ketut Sudana, confirmed that despite the success of reducing criminal activity in his area, the authorities still decided to increase their surveillance at several ATMs across the region.

"This operation was initiated to prevent criminal acts at ATMs, because it is a big problem in many areas in Bali," said Iptu Sudana, Monday (29/11).

Sudana said ATMs were one of the easier targets because the majority of them had been installed outside buildings, making surveillance difficult.

"We routinely patrol ATMs in Mengwi, Badung at night, especially in quiet areas where no one can see except CCTV cameras." added Souda.

Sudana assured the public that the agency will continue to improve its surveillance program, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Badung had fewer criminal cases during the Covid-19 pandemic, but I believe there is still a need to anticipate criminal activity, especially at financial institutions such as banks in our region. concluded Iptu Soudana.
