An official at Bali's Ngurah Rai airport has confirmed that the domestic terminal handled over half a million passengers in January 2022.

Chairman and CEO of Angkasa Pura Ltd Bali Ngurah Rai Airport, Herry AY Sikado, confirmed that the number of passengers in January 2022 was higher than in January 2021.

"The number of passengers in January this year increased by 182% compared to data for the same period in 2021," Sikado said on Tuesday (8/2).

Sikado said Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport handled 598,971 passengers in January. The Air Traffic Authority also recorded 4,840 domestic flights. This is a 35% increase from January 2021 figures.

Garuda, Citilink and Lion Air dominate flight services as they carry thousands of passengers every day.

"Jakarta air route has 328,939 passengers, Surabaya route has 85,433 passengers and Ujung Pandang route has 42,717 passengers," Sikado added.

Despite heavy traffic at the airport, Sikado ensured that the airport facilities had appropriate procedures in place to handle the influx of domestic visitors. They have deployed officers to check the negative Covid-19 test results and vaccination status of all passengers.
