rescued sea turtles freed at kuta beach in bali after arresting the poacher

Around 2 dozen green sea turtles were set free at Kuta Beach near Denpasar on 5th August. These turtles were rescued after 7 people were arrested for poachingĀ on the Serangan waters for allegedly attempting to smuggle 36 green sea turtles.

The giant green turtles were carefully guided by the Marine Officials as they thrashed their flippers to propel themselves towards the water through the sand.

These 25 turtles were among the 36 turtles that were seized after a raid conducted last month that saw the arrest of seven traffickers. Those traffickers could face up to 5 years behind the bars if they found guilty and convicted under Indonesia's wild life protection laws.

"Hopefully these 25 turtles will survive so that they can lay their eggs again," said Bali conservation agency chief Agus Budi Santosa, adding that 11 others rescued at the time would be freed later.

These beautiful green turtles that can grow up to more than a meter and can weigh up to 300kgs are considered under threat due to poaching and the destruction of habitat.

Not only their eggs are considered as a delicacy but they are also poached and slaughtered for their skin, meat and shells
