The 2017 Bali Arts Festival opened on Saturday (10/06) as ten of thousands visitors gathered at the Bajra Sandhi Monument in Denpasar for the event's inaugural ceremony, topping Twitter's most trending topic in the country.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo was initially scheduled to make an appearance in the opening parade, but later cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. In his stead, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo and Tourism Minister Arief Yahya gave speeches at the inauguration.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, as many as 100,000 people witnessed the festival's opening.
The ceremony also became a hot topic on Indonesian Twitter for 13 hours on Saturday, with #PestaKesenianBali and #yuknontonpkb reaching the top two most trended hashtags on the digital platform.
