Authorities in the village of Pererenan have established a new policy that prohibits visitors from bringing more than one domestic animal to Pererenan Beach.
An official from the village of Pererenan, Ketut Sukasena, has confirmed that visitors are no longer allowed to bring multiple pets. This policy is carried out to maintain the cleanliness of the beach from animal waste.
“This policy was issued with the aim of reducing waste from these pets, especially in surf areas,” Sukasena said on Wednesday (8/12).
Prior to this new policy, authorities had received numerous complaints from international and local tourists annoyed by the litter left by pet owners walking their dogs and cats along Pererenan beach.
Sukasena also admitted that at one point visitors brought dozens of dogs at a time, which polluted the beach with trash.
After hearing these complaints, village officials finally decided to adopt this policy. They printed them on leaflets and placed them around tourist sites in the Pererenan region. This policy was also initiated to prevent dog bites in areas likely to spread the rabies virus.
However, they will not impose penalties on violators because the local government has not officially ratified this policy. "While the ratification process is still ongoing, we can only warn and educate violators and promote this policy through social media," Sukasena concluded.
