Foreigners who have been in Indonesia since the outbreak of covid-19 and are still dealing with the visa issues now have another extra month to sort the things out and stay in the country as per the announcement made by Indonesia's immigration today.

Jhoni Ginting Director General of Immigration said in a circular that this new deadline applies to foreign nationals who have stayed with expired stay permits and are not eligible for extension such as those who entered the country with visa-free access — as well as holders of visitor permits (ITK) such as social visas or multiple entry visitor visas.

“Up to this point, there are still obstacles causing difficulty for foreign nationals to apply for visa approval or immigration stay permits,” Jhoni said in the circular, which has been confirmed by Putu Suhendra, who heads the information department at the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office.

Jhoni confirmed that the previous deadline which was August 20 is now extended to September 20 2020. This new normal update of Indonesia Immigration was first announced on July 12 and was not welcomed by most and received a lot of backlash and confusion among the many foreigners who were stuck in the country. That circular basically told the foreigners to leave the country by mid of the August.

That same update was followed by another update on July 22nd which said that the foreigners with expiring visas who wish to stay in the country should apply for a telex visa in order to renew their stay permits that allows them to stay in the country.

Teler Visa is the term used as a reference to pre-approved letter recommendation by Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration for prospective visa applicants, which must then be delivered to and processed at Indonesian embassies abroad in order to obtain the actual visa.

Since these are confusing and unprecedented times the foreigners that are granted with the telex visa can simply apply for either ITAS or visitor permits ITK by making the necessary payments without leaving Indonesia.
