A drive thru vaccination center has been launched in Nusa Dua convention center (BNDCC). The target is to inoculate more than 5000 people related to tourism industry public transportation sector, and ride-hailing services.
The center is targeting to administer 840 daily vaccine shots and was scheduled to operate until 5th March for its first run. The center will then resume operations for a second run between March 13 and 19.
Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Indonesia's Health Minister, stated that its a collaboration between private sector and government
as super-app Grab and health platform Good Doctor handled logistics, with his ministry in charge of the vaccines, as well as the doctors and nurses for the program.
“We are confident that the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines in Indonesia can be accelerated through the support and partnership of the private sector,” Budi said.
Wayan Koster, Governor of Bali was also present at the launch and expressed hope that this program will boost the acceleration of province's devastated tourism industry's recovery.
“When the tourism sector is revived, the economy will get back on track and people’s livelihoods can be restored,” he said.
As per Grab the first test run participants were chosen by Bali's administration who received the invitation through text messages which they had to show to gain entrance to the center, as on-the-spot registrations are not allowed. They also claim that this is the first COVID-19 vaccination drive-thru in Southeast Asia.
