As Covid-19 incidents continue to rise, Indonesian
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has agreed to begin imposing an emergency
partial lockdown for Bali and Java.
After consulting with various ministries and regional
administrations, Jokowi has decided to conduct an emergency partial lockdown in
all areas of Bali and Java for 18 days in order to prevent Covid-19
transmissions, which have lately increased. “After consulting with our
ministers and certain regional administrations, I have agreed to impose an emergency
partial lockdown for Bali and Java from July 3rd to July 20th, 2021.” On
Thursday (1/7), President Jokowi held a virtual news conference.
The new requirements of the emergency partial lockdown
are as follows:

Each traveler on
both land and air travel service must show a Covid-19 vaccine document
·
Each traveler must
show a negative result of PCR test that is taken 2 days prior to their arrival
at the airport, and negative rapid antigen test result is required for land
transportation

100% of non-essential
workers are required to work from home
·
In-person learning
at school is not allowed
·
Essential service
sector such as financial business, communication and information business must
operate with only 50% of their capacity
·
Critical services
sector such as energy, health, security, logistics, transportation, food and
beverages, strategic projects and other industries that provide basic needs for
people are allowed to operate with 100% of their staff with prevention
protocols in place

Grocery stores and
traditional market are allowed to operate until 8:00pm with only 50% of their
capacity
·
Pharmacy is
allowed to be fully operational
·
Shopping malls
must be closed
·
Restaurants and
cafes are not allowed to accept dine-in services
·
Construction sites
are allowed to be fully operated
·
Religious places
such as church, temple and mosque must be temporarily closed
·
Public facilities
such as parks and tourist attractions must be closed
·
Public Events must
be canceled
·
Wedding ceremonies
are allowed but with 30 guests maximum
Despite the emergency partial shutdown, Denpasar Mayor
IGN Jaya Negara indicated that he will not apply this strategy for Denpasar
since the police had handled Covid-19 transmissions very effectively. “The
Covid-19 transmissions in Denpasar are being managed very cautiously, and we
are not currently facing any emergency situations.” As a result, we will not
adopt such policy in our city.” Jaya Negara stated.
