Tourism Minister Arief Yahya praised Air Asia for its new flight route from Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali to Tokyo's Narita International Airport on Thursday (25/05).

Air Asia's inaugural XT 402 flight from Tokyo, Japan, landed in Denpasar, Bali, on Thursday with a 93 percent occupancy rate.

"Thank you Air Asia," Arief said.

The Airbus A330-300 was welcomed by a traditional Balinese water canon salute, while the flight's passengers were greeted with flowers and a traditional dance.

"This is extraordinary. Hopefully [...] more Japanese tourists visit the archipelago," Arief added.

As the first low-cost long-haul direct service connecting Indonesia and Japan, the flight allows Japanese tourists to visit the archipelago at affordable prices, and is expected to develop mutual tourism between both countries.
