National Cultural Week has officially kicked off on Monday 7th October and it will go on for one week till 13th October. The event is being held at Istora Senayan in South Jakarta with free and open access to public. While you will find tons of activities to do but we suggest that you make the most of it by doing the following.

Enjoy The Traditional Cuisines

Traditional cuisines are a major part of Indonesian culture. So a large variety of Indonesian traditional cuisines are going to be available.You will pretty much find everything from kerak telur (savory pancake) and Surakarta's nasi liwet (rice cooked in coconut milk, chicken broth and spices) to Palembang's pempek (fishcake with vinegar and soy sauce) and Bali's nasi campur (mixed rice).

Participate in Traditional Games

Cultural festival is all about visitors getting the feel of traditions. Visitors will get to try and participate in the traditional cultural games that you will hardly find in the busy city life these days. These traditional games have a rich history that go back to a long time such as egrang (bamboo stilts), engklek (hopscotch), gangsing (spinning tops) and congklak (mancala), at the east yard of Gelora Bung Karno stadium's south parking lot.

Indulge in Local Culture's History

This festival also gives the visitors a great opportunity to learn the history and details about the various aspects of Indonesian culture. Every corner of the festival will be having information with posters, pamphlets and Infographics explaining the the development and history of archipelago's culture..

Enjoy the art of Wayang Daun

Wayang Daun aka Leaf puppetry is a very different form of Wayang. This art replaces the leather puppets with with dried leaves instead. It combines a perfect mixture of three skills, painting sculpture and interior design. The level of creativity can be seen in the puppets with each leaf having a unique design of its own.
Experience the Indonesian Five Funeral Traditions.
This exhibition is definitely unique as you get experience the five different funeral traditions of Indonesia. Trunyan from Bali, Kambira Baby Tombs in Tana Toraja, Waruga in Minahasa, Toraja's Lemo and Londa stone wall tombsand the Batak sarcophagus..You will also see the original mummy from Makassar on display in a very insightful and interesting way.
