Authorities in Bali have granted remission of sentences to 26 foreign prisoners from different prisons as of Christmas 2021.

Bali's Chief Minister of Law and Human Rights Jamaruli Manihuruk confirmed that dozens of foreign detainees in various Bali prisons were granted remission on Christmas Day.

“A total of 26 foreign detainees have received remission. There are 14 inmates from the Kerobokan Prison, 5 from the Women's Prison in Kerobokan, 1 from Singaraja Prison, and 6 from the Drugs Prison," said Jamaruli, Sunday (12/26).

Jamaruli explained that this discount program had been implemented in accordance with the Indonesian Constitution. A Decree from the Indonesian Directorate of Corrections was also issued on November 4, 2021.

Apart from foreign detainees, hundreds of local detainees also benefited from reduced sentences. In addition, two of them were fully released from prison.

“212 Indonesian prisoners also benefited from a reduced sentence, and 125 of them were from the Kerobokan prison. This program is for inmates who have behaved well and obeyed all the rules while in prison,” added Jamaruli.

During their period of detention, all Balinese prisoners regularly learn practical skills such as welding, crafts, painting and agriculture to help them adjust to their return to society.
