A Bali official has confirmed that rumors of plans to increase visa-on-arrival fees for international travelers are misinformation.

The head of Bali's Ministry of Law and Human Rights Jamaruli Manihuruk said the latest rumors about the government's plan to double the cost of visas on arrival at Bali airports were hoaxes.

“According to current regulations, the fee is still 35 USD (Rp 500,000) per person. It's just false information," said Jamaruli, Saturday (16/4) afternoon.

Jamaruli explained that changing government regulations is a long process and the government needs to make an official announcement before finally implementing its policies.

"I ask everyone to stop spreading false information, especially as tourism in Bali is starting to recover and international tourists are starting to visit the island," Jamaruli added.

Rumors of a plan to increase the visa on arrival fee from Rp 500,000 to Rp 1.5 million have been circulating, as previously reported by The Bali Sun.

This makes tourism stakeholders from the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association oppose the policy because it can have a negative impact on the tourism industry which has been struggling since the Covid-19 pandemic.
