Looking for the best place to go on a yoga retreat? Try Bali! I
myself went there a few weeks ago, and tried out a few studios to see which was
the best one. The best part was the sheer variety of choices - there are so
many studios, so many instructors, so many different types of yoga you can
learn!
To truly get the best out of the trip, educate yourself on the
different styles of yoga and then pick what suits your fitness level,
personality and goals for practising yoga best. For example, Ashtanga and Bikram
yoga are rather challenging and better suited for athletic or experienced
types, while Hatha and Viniyoga are more gentle and better for beginners. I
myself focused on Ashtanga, but experimented with styles like Hatha and Vinyasa
too. Be sure to pick an instructor you connect with, otherwise you’ll lose your
motivation fast!
I truly recommend the Yoga Barn (https://www.theyogabarn.com) for anyone going to Bali on a
yoga retreat, whether you’re a novice or an experienced yogi. I spent my first
week there, and it was a unique experience - it was near perfect. In addition
to it’s five yoga studios, it also has a cafe, a holistic healing center and an
Ayurvedic Rejuvenation center. The yoga instructors are some of the best in the
world, and the classes are held for 90 minutes each so you have plenty of time
to hold each pose to truly make sure you’re doing it right. The Yoga Barn
doesn’t treat yoga as a sport, instead, it recognized that it is a workout for
the mind and soul as well as the body.
My second week in Bali, I tried out Radiantly Alive (https://radiantlyalive.com). It’s
cheaper than the Yoga Barn, but the quality of classes isn’t much lower! The
instructors are warm, friendly and open, plus, it has a gorgeous view of the
jungle. The entire atmosphere is calm and relaxing, and you can feel your
troubles melt away the moment you step in. I tried out Vinyasa yoga for the
first time in my life, and truly enjoyed the experience - the instructor
created a safe, accepting space that made me feel a lot less self-conscious
than I usually am! There’s also freshly cut fruits at the end of every class.
Get a week’s pass, you won’t regret it.
My third and last week in Bali, I went to Taksu Yoga (https://www.taksuyoga.com) and
Movement Arts. Taksu has a more private, intimate feel than the Yoga Barn or
Radiantly Alive as each class usually has a maximum of only 8 people. The
instructors are very capable and modify their classes to suit the participants,
making it an excellent experience for everyone involved. The classes themselves
are usually held in an open room next to the river, and the sounds of nature
are more calming than any sort of music could ever be.
I came back from my 3 week trip feeling energized and
rejuvenated, and honestly, I can’t wait to go again!
