Inspired by a story shared with him personally by US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross about Donald Trump's deregulation agenda, President Jokowi has instructed his Ministers to do the same slash regulations for every new rule issuance.

Jokowi passed on these instructions in a Cabinet meeting held on Monday for Job creation. The Indonesian Onward Ministers were told to slash all regulations that deem to slow down investment that can open more job chances in the country.

“Recently, Secretary Ross told me that there, if any minister wanted to issue a regulation, he/she needed to revoke two regulations,” said Jokowi at the Presidential Office on Monday.

“We should be able to do that as well. For every regulation issued by a minister, they need to annul 40 ministerial regulations because we have too many ministerial regulations.”

Donald Trump signed an executive order on January 30 2017, which directed government agencies to revoke two regulations for every new regulation to avoid incurring more added cost for compliance of the new regulation.

Jokowi's one of the priority agenda is to attract more foreign investors to invest in the Country so that more jobs can be created. He summed this in his victory speech as well " no one should be allergic to investment”, particularly those that create jobs in the country"

The ratio of open unemployment stood at 5.28% as of August this year, a little slower than last year's same period around 5.34%. However going by the numbers, there is an increase in unemployed people by 50000 between August 2018 and this August 2019 while 2.5 Million people got on job over the same period.

Jokowi further emphasized on the needs of bureaucratic reform, to change the mindset of civil servants from “procedure-oriented” to “result-oriented” in particular. Investment which is around third of GDP only saw an increase of 4.21% in the third quarter. The data shared by BPS showed a drop in growth from 6.96% percent recorded in the same period of 2018.
