While the kite season is over in Bali the violations certainly aren't. Recently local authorities had to force down a huge kite that was flying near Ngurah Rai Airport.

As per the reports around 10 officials comprised of Indonesian military, airport police and security who are a part of

“kite order task force” — undertook the task, as there were concerns that the kite might disrupt flight traffic.

“Yesterday the kite order task force put down one large kite. Next, the owner, named Sukarya, was provided with guidance so that he wouldn’t fly it up around the aviation operational safety area,” Denpasar Police spokesman, I Ketut Sukadi, said today.

The kite that got forced down was painted similarly of an owl and was colored predominantly red and green. It was about 6 feet tall.

“We hope that people can be more careful about where they fly their kites, [to avoid] areas around the airport for example, so that they wouldn’t be a disruption,” Sukadi said.

Kite season in Bali aka musim layang-layang is from June to August. Thousands of kites flying in various parts of Island can be witnessed during that time of the year as it is a centuries old tradition in Bali.
